Under dependent child sponsorship program, Canadian citizens or permanent residents may sponsor their dependent child to immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident. The following are the eligibility criteria for the sponsor:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Must make a formal commitment to become financially responsible (Undertaking) for the common law partner
- Must reside in Canada
- if you are a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when your sponsored conjugal partner becomes a permanent resident
- you cannot sponsor someone if you are a permanent resident living outside Canada
Dependent child’s eligibility requirement:
- Must be under the age of 22 and single (has no spouse or common law partner)
- If over the age of 22 then must have been financially dependent on a parent since before the age of 22 and unable to be financially self-supporting due to a physical or mental disability
