Federal Skilled Trades (FST) Program​

Federal Skilled Trades (FST) Program is an immigration stream aimed at individuals who may become permanent residents on the basis of their skilled trade occupation.  Candidates on this immigration stream are not assessed on a point system. Eligibility requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) are as follows:​​​

  1. ​Plan to live outside the province of Quebec​
  2. Meet the required levels in English or French for each language ability
  3. ​Have at least two years of full-time work experience or an equal amount of part-time work experience
    • ​Work experience must be in a skilled trade within the five years before applying
  4. Meet the job requirements for skilled trade as set out in the following National Occupational Classification (NOC)
    • ​Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
    • Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
    • Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
    • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
    • Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks, and
    • Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers
  5. Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year
  6. There is no education requirement for this class.  However, to earn points under Express Entry, the candidate needs either a Canadian post-secondary certificate, diploma, degree or ECA report produced by an agency approved by Canada Immigration and Citizenship​
